A uniquely beautiful day and night country atmosphere in The extensive gardens have been established from 1973 in the shade of a magnificent 150 year old Colonial Turkish Oak tree, size and scale, more than sufficient to tangibly impress. Not so vast that losing yourself is possible, but above all else Taunton is inspiring in a peacefully restful way. Away from the thrum of urban traffic, but punctuated incessantly by nature's little players. A place where you will wake up to a "Dawn Chorus" of the most amazing bird song.

Satisfy the duty you have to yourself. Taunton Gardens will give sensitive substance, surprise and delight spontaneously with a passionate work of botanical love so palpable with originality and craftsmanship that you'll wish you'd arrived the day before yesterday. Arrive, unload, and enjoy...

Two large ponds inhabited by an array of local wildlife and in summer & mass plantings of day lilies. A favorite journey in spring is along a walled garden to a seat under two fragrant Michelias. Barry has developed several new varieties of Michelias - attractive evergreen trees which cover themselves in cream fragrant flowers in spring.

His ability to grow and hybridise rhododendrons is known internationally and one of his accolades has been the development of Hosta "Duke of Cornwall" named by Prince Charles. Rather than devising a landscape plan in the beginning, Barry says, "The development of the garden happened in sympathy with the total surrounding landscape of a valley, a stream and a rocky mountainous backdrop falling towards the sea."
