Two large ponds inhabited by an array of local wildlife and in summer & mass plantings of day lilies. A favorite journey in spring is along a walled garden to a seat under two fragrant Michelias. Barry has developed several new varieties of Michelias - attractive evergreen trees which cover themselves in cream fragrant flowers in spring.
His ability to grow and hybridise rhododendrons is known internationally and one of his accolades has been the development of Hosta "Duke of Cornwall" named by Prince Charles. Rather than devising a landscape plan in the beginning, Barry says, "The development of the garden happened in sympathy with the total surrounding landscape of a valley, a stream and a rocky mountainous backdrop falling towards the sea."
